Sokol Prague – Structural analysis of roof structure

Scope: The building of  Sokol gymnastics organization was built during the First Czechoslovak Republic in 1920's and it is a showcase of engineering art of the era. The Sokol wanted to convert the penthouse above the gym hall to a new playground for their youngest members. The existing steel truss girders span about 18m (59ft) and they support the ceiling structure as well. The loading of existing structure is already close to the limit strength therefore we designed a new built-in steel structure.
